Louise Woodward, the British former au pair convicted over the 1997 death of eight-month-old Matthew Eappen in Massachusetts, has been photographed in Shropshire ahead of a planned HBO drama about the case. The five-part series is expected to revive public attention on a trial that became an international media phenomenon and prompted debate about childcare, class and media coverage.

Woodward was 18 when she was charged after Matthew died from head injuries, around ten weeks after she began working for his family. A jury found her guilty of second-degree murder, but a judge later reduced the verdict to involuntary manslaughter and cut her sentence to time served; she then returned to Britain. HBO’s The Trial Of Louise Woodward will star Meghann Fahy and be written and directed by Matthew Barry, while it is unclear whether Woodward has contributed to the production.
