## Key points

- Guilfoyle appeared at a CPAC gala at Mar-a-Lago.
- She bought a $15,000 portrait of Mercedes Schlapp.
- She resigned as ambassador after reports of financial and conduct issues.

## Summary

Kimberly Guilfoyle returned to a prominent conservative gathering, attending a CPAC gala at Mar-a-Lago weeks after resigning as US ambassador to Greece. Her appearance suggests she remains welcome in Trump-aligned circles despite reports of conduct and financial issues that preceded her departure.

Guilfoyle bought a $15,000 portrait of CPAC chairman Matt Schlapp’s wife, Mercedes, who is a former Trump aide. Schlapp said he invited Guilfoyle because they are longtime friends, and that she received a warm welcome and was not paid to attend. She resigned on 13 October after reports that she had asked a former Republican candidate for $100,000 to pay her credit card bill; the article also says sources believe she may avoid criticising the Trump family because she could need a pardon.
