King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard have released "Alien Metal", the title track from their upcoming 28th studio album, continuing the Australian psych-rock band's recent embrace of early-1990s-style techno. The shift follows a series of "rave" shows the group played last year, during which they became attached to a modular Eurorack synthesiser setup they nicknamed Nathan, and the new material marks a notable departure from the guitar-driven sound they are best known for.

The band previously shared "Level 5" as the album's lead single, and "Alien Metal" follows a similar sonic path, described as high-energy techno with the band's characteristic unconventional melodic touches. No release date has yet been confirmed for the Alien Metal album, though it is expected to arrive later this summer via the band's own label, p(doom).
