Australian psych-rock band King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard have announced a new EDM-leaning album titled 'Alien Metal', due out later this summer on their own p(doom) label, alongside a run of "rave shows" in New York City. The record marks a deeper move into electronic experimentation, and the band have shared its first single, 'Level 5'. The release comes just over a year after its predecessor, 'Phantom Island', signalling a notable stylistic shift for the six-piece.

The album was recorded during extensive live sessions in which all six members simultaneously operated a large Eurorack modular synthesizer nicknamed 'Nathan', a setup previously used at a 2025 concert at Factory International in Manchester. Frontman Stu Mackenzie said the process "completely rewired my brain", while bandmate Joe Walker — who initiated the project and has a background in electronic music — described learning the mechanics of dance music structure. The band will play four New York dates next month: three at Forest Hills Stadium on 20th, 21st and 22nd August (the last billed as a "rave show" with DJ Moktar), and a final performance at Brooklyn's Under the K Bridge Park on 23rd August, accompanied by a DJ set from Vril.
