Netflix has appointed Kirill Sokolov to direct Blur, an original science-fiction thriller centred on a mother-and-daughter story involving teleportation. The project marks another major Hollywood assignment for Sokolov after his recent English-language debut, and brings producer Shawn Levy’s 21 Laps back into Netflix’s film slate.

The plot remains largely confidential. Blur is based on an earlier script by Christy Hall and Dan Casey; Sokolov will rewrite it with Ellen Shanman, while Levy and Dan Levine produce and Bryan Oh oversees for 21 Laps. Sokolov previously directed the 2019 Russian dark action comedy Why Don’t You Just Die and Warner Bros.’ March release They Will Kill You, starring Zazie Beetz.
