Koei Tecmo wants to avoid “dependence on major titles”, though expectations for Wo Long 2 and Attack on Titan 3 are high
Koei Tecmo has said it wants to avoid over-relying on a handful of blockbuster releases, aiming instead for a broader mix of major and mid-range games through to the 2027 financial year. The comments came from the Japanese publisher's first-quarter earnings briefing, as reported by GameBiz, and follow a strong recent run for the company thanks to titles such as Nioh 3, Dynasty Warriors: Origins and the surprise hit Pokémon Pokopia. The strategy suggests a deliberate effort to diversify output rather than repeatedly betting on a small number of big-budget projects, even as anticipation builds for its next major titles.
Koei Tecmo plans to release six major console and PC titles, 19 mid-range titles, and two already-announced original online and mobile titles in the near-to-mid term, alongside ports, remasters and smaller community-focused projects. Despite the push for balance, expectations remain high for its next two big triple-A releases, Attack on Titan 3 and Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember, while an unannounced action game with "oriental-style aesthetics" is also reportedly in development. Additional releases confirmed include a Dynasty Warriors 3 remaster launching in October, plus ongoing DLC and updates for Pokémon Pokopia developed with Game Freak and Nintendo.
