Kristen Stewart has welcomed Sony’s plan to restore and reopen Hollywood’s Cinerama Dome, while joking that she hoped the company would not “f*** it up”. The reopening is significant because the landmark cinema has been closed since 2020, and its return would restore a prominent venue for large-format film screenings in Los Angeles.

Sony announced in July that its Alamo Drafthouse chain will operate the Dome and the neighbouring former ArcLight Hollywood site, with reopening planned for early 2028. Some cinema-goers have raised concerns about Alamo’s mobile-ordering model, but Sony says the Dome will not offer in-theatre dining and that the restoration will preserve its curved screen, distinctive design and traditional concessions; Stewart is also restoring Highland Park’s century-old Highland Theatre after buying it this year.
