## Key points

- Kwame Brown says Bronny James took another player’s NBA opportunity.
- James has averaged 2.8 minutes across four games this season.
- Lakers coach JJ Redick criticised his team’s late-game readiness.

## Summary

Former NBA player Kwame Brown criticised Bronny James, arguing that a less prominent player lost an NBA opportunity because the Lakers kept LeBron James’s son. Brown called the situation “a shame” and said James’s family connection was the reason people accepted it, renewing debate over the scrutiny and opportunities surrounding the younger James.

Brown was apparently referring to the Lakers retaining James over Dalton Knecht, a 2024 first-round pick. Bronny James had played in four games this season, averaging 2.8 minutes and scoring one point; across his career, he has averaged 2.6 points in 7.8 minutes. The comments came after Lakers coach JJ Redick said he would keep players on court after the team nearly squandered a 14-point lead against Toronto.
