Juszczyk's celebration involves raising his hand to his mouth in a drinking motion, which the league misinterpreted. The 49ers' quarterback Brock Purdy and teammate George Kittle confirmed that the player has performed this celebration for approximately five years without prior sanction, and head coach Kyle Shanahan has never warned against it. Juszczyk is appealing the fine, with a hearing scheduled for Tuesday via Zoom; he added that Shanahan learned of the fine before he did and initially thought the coach was joking.
