Australian radio host Kyle Sandilands has reignited debate over drug policy by proposing that cocaine should be legalised and sold through Chemist Warehouse pharmacies. His comments, made on his new show this week, come amid a broader discussion sparked by Australian Federal Police Commissioner Krissy Barrett about Australia's illicit drug use and its links to organised crime. Sandilands argued that regulated pharmaceutical sales would provide purer products and reduce the dangers associated with criminal supply chains.

The Australian Capital Territory remains the only jurisdiction where small personal-use amounts of cocaine are decriminalised, though possession remains technically unlawful. Chemist Warehouse operates approximately 560 locations nationwide but declined to comment on the proposal. Sandilands' remarks drew mixed reactions from listeners, with some supporting the regulation argument ("safely controlled is better than underground zero control") and others criticising the idea as dangerous. Sandilands has previously disclosed that he struggled with cocaine addiction during the late 2000s following his 2010 divorce.
