Kylie Ellina Truswell-Mobbs, 52, was sentenced in Brisbane after pleading guilty to assisting the suicide of her terminally ill husband, David Mobbs, and the prosecution accepted her plea in place of murder. The judge imposed a two-year prison sentence, suspended immediately because she had already spent 14 months in custody; he said she had acted out of compassion.

Mobbs, a 56-year-old former firefighter, had an aggressive form of motor neurone disease that rapidly left him bedridden, unable to speak and in pain. His barrister said he begged to die and that Truswell-Mobbs acted openly, with the knowledge of their sons and carers; although he may have qualified for voluntary assisted dying, accessing it was expected to take at least nine days. Family and supporters cheered her as she left court.
