L7 Bassist Jennifer Finch Dead at 59, Days After Going Public With Brain Cancer Battle

American Songwriter · 20 hours ago

L7 bassist Jennifer Finch has died at the age of 59, just days after publicly revealing she was battling brain cancer. The band confirmed her death on Instagram, describing her as a "beloved bandmate, friend, and fellow troublemaker" who had fought the disease courageously, while a representative told Rolling Stone that Finch was a "true original" whose impact on music and art could not be measured.

Finch joined L7 in 1987, two years after the band formed, and played with them for nearly two decades, helping shape their sound and reputation. According to a GoFundMe set up on her behalf, treatment initially offered hope of recovery, but complications led to multiple surgeries and setbacks that left her with significant physical limitations; she had been due to rejoin L7 for the US leg of their Last Hurrah Tour but was forced to withdraw due to her illness. Beyond L7, Finch played in OtherStarPeople and the Shocker, founded the label Little Pusher Records, and worked as a photographer.
