"La Nieve," a Spanish-language song from Javier Ambrossi and Javier Calvo's Cannes breakout film "La Bola Negra," has been submitted for Best Original Song Oscar consideration, The Hollywood Reporter has learned exclusively. The film, acquired by Netflix for an awards campaign, follows three generations of Spaniards connected through a final, unfinished play by poet Federico García Lorca, whose work frequently uses snow as a symbol of grief and loss.

The track was co-written by Raúl Refree and performed by 28-year-old Latin Grammy nominee Guitarricadelafuente, who also makes his acting debut in the film as a Nationalist soldier during the Spanish Civil War. Should he land nominations in both acting and songwriting categories, he would become only the fifth person to achieve this feat, following Mary J. Blige, Lady Gaga, Cynthia Erivo and Leslie Odom Jr. Netflix has also confirmed "La Bola Negra" will open in US theatres on 16 October before streaming from 2 December, marking the streamer's longest-ever theatrical exclusivity window at 47 days.
