## Key points

- Bass released a video criticising Raman’s campaign performances on polling day.
- A recent poll put both candidates at 40 per cent.
- Raman said her reference to former police chief Daryl Gates was a mistake.

## Summary

Karen Bass released a video attacking Nithya Raman’s campaign performances on polling day, saying the challenger lacks the experience and plans to lead Los Angeles. The late-stage attack comes as the two Democrats contest a closely fought mayoral run-off.

The video highlights Raman’s difficulty answering some debate questions, her reference to former police chief Daryl Gates and a remark she says was directed at Donald Trump and immigration officers. Raman called the Gates reference a mistake and said she had fumbled her point; she has defended Special Order 40, which bars officers from using immigration status to initiate investigations. A UC Berkeley and Los Angeles Times poll put both candidates at 40 per cent, while a September poll showed Raman 11 points ahead.
