## Key points

- Hollywood Hills residents have sued over tourist-related nuisance and safety concerns.
- The complaint cites vendors, waste, traffic and fire risks.
- Residents say narrow roads can hinder escape and emergency access.

## Summary

Residents of Hollywood Hills have filed a public nuisance complaint against Los Angeles, Mayor Karen Bass and Councilwoman Nithya Raman, saying tourist crowds and illegal vendors have made the area near the Hollywood sign unsafe and unpleasant. They argue that officials promoted the site without adequately managing its effects on local life and property.

The complaint cites regular public urination and defecation, illegal vending and dumping, traffic, cigarette litter and fire risks. Residents say narrow, winding roads, around 18 feet wide on average and without pavements, can become obstructed, potentially hindering residents’ escape and emergency services’ access. A sign-viewing spot was cleared in 2011 to encourage tourism, and residents say the pressures have persisted for years.
