## Key points

- Carr admires Dončić’s pace and scoring.
- Dončić was averaging 38.3 points per game.
- His points-per-minute rate could set a record.

## Summary

Rookie Cameron Carr says he is struck by how Luka Dončić controls games at his own pace, as the Lakers star begins the 2026-27 season with exceptional scoring numbers. Carr’s comments underline Dončić’s influence on teammates and the attention his early performances are drawing.

Before Wednesday’s game against Sacramento, Dončić was averaging a league-high 38.3 points per game, alongside 8.1 assists, eight rebounds and 1.9 steals. His 1.072 points per minute would surpass Wilt Chamberlain’s NBA record of 1.038 from 1961-62 if maintained for the season; Carr, who made his NBA debut on Sunday, averaged 18.9 points in his college season at Baylor.
