## Key points

- Jackson’s hand injury could end his season.
- The Ravens face a difficult contract and salary cap decision.
- A trade is possible, but Jackson has a no-trade clause.

## Summary

Lamar Jackson’s latest injury has raised the possibility that he could leave the Baltimore Ravens next offseason, despite his importance to the team since joining in 2018. The article argues that his health record and the Ravens’ finances may make a contract extension difficult, turning the future of a two-time MVP into a major decision for the club.

Jackson injured his throwing hand against Buffalo and is expected to have surgery; coach Jesse Minter said he would go on injured reserve, with his return this season uncertain. He is due to count $84.34 million against next year’s salary cap, while the Ravens are estimated to be $45.9 million over it. Jackson reportedly expects an extension and to become the league’s highest-paid player; any trade would require his permission because he has a no-trade clause.
