## Key points

- Jackson hopes to return after a serious thumb injury.
- Recovery could take six to nine weeks.
- The Ravens have lost four consecutive games.

## Summary

Lamar Jackson has told his Baltimore Ravens team he hopes to return this season after fracturing and dislocating his right thumb. His message, paraphrased as “Just stay alive”, was described as energising, as the team tries to keep its season going.

Jackson is on injured reserve but has not been ruled out for the season; recovery typically takes six to nine weeks, which could put a return in early January. The 4-5 Ravens have lost four straight after starting 4-1, and face the Browns and Bengals in late December before a possible regular-season finale against the Steelers. Backup Tyler Huntley has also been ruled out for the season, while Baltimore acquired Jacoby Brissett from Arizona.
