## Key points

- Lancashire will explore a farewell for Anderson after his release.
- Members were upset they could not celebrate his career.
- He took 50 Championship wickets last season.

## Summary

Lancashire will consider arranging a farewell for James Anderson after his release from the county prompted anger among members. At a tense meeting at Old Trafford, fans said the end-of-season decision had denied them a chance to thank him for his service; the club’s leaders agreed to look into a way to recognise his career.

Incoming director of cricket Paul Farbrace said he wants to build a County Championship-winning squad within four years and does not expect Anderson, who turns 45 next year, to be part of it. Anderson took 50 Championship wickets last season and was named Lancashire’s player of the year, despite the team finishing second-bottom in Division Two. He has 911 international wickets and 443 first-class wickets for Lancashire, and other counties are interested in signing him.
