The reveal centres on Zoe (Poorna Jagannathan), whose healing powers and secret bargains had kept the town safe, and the fallout leaves few characters unscathed. Collider spoke to cast members Poorna Jagannathan and Garret Dillahunt ahead of the episode's release to discuss the twist and its impact on the show's remaining storylines.

Jagannathan revealed she was not told about her character's true nature by the show's creators and only discovered it while reading the script, describing herself as "completely shattered" when she realised Zoe was in fact a Manhunter — a twist she hadn't anticipated, having assumed the character would be male. She said she immediately contacted series creator Chris Mundy by text, phone call and voice message in the middle of the night to react to the revelation. Dillahunt, who plays William Macon, also discussed filming Western-style scenes for the show, having previously worked on similar productions including *Deadwood*.
