Latest alleged GTA 6 leak “risks tarnishing the reputation of our communities”, say Stop Killing Games after hackers claim pro-consumer motivations

Rock Paper Shotgun · 3 hours ago

A group calling itself Cyberleek leaked further alleged Grand Theft Auto 6 footage, framing the act as a protest against anti-consumer practices such as digital preorders and gated singleplayer DLC. The Stop Killing Games campaign, which lobbies for similar consumer protections through legislation, has publicly condemned the leak and distanced itself from the hackers, warning that the incident could damage the credibility of legitimate consumer-rights efforts.

Cyberleek's manifesto called for measures including an "offline fallback state" for singleplayer games, echoing goals Stop Killing Games pursues through legal channels, but the group also promoted a cryptocurrency memecoin alongside the leak, undermining its stated motives. Stop Killing Games urged people not to send the hackers money, noted that Rockstar's own official "Extended Look" is due within days, and pointed out that the culprit behind a similar 2022 Rockstar hack ended up subject to an indefinite hospital order. Much of the leaked footage was met with swift DMCA takedowns, and Rockstar and Take-Two are expected to pursue whatever action they see fit against those responsible.
