Leeds United are closing in on the signing of Nice left-back Melvin Bard on an initial loan deal that includes an option to make the move permanent. The 25-year-old Frenchman is travelling to Elland Road on transfer deadline day to undergo a medical, with the move set to bolster manager Daniel Farke's options at full-back, an area of the squad currently relying solely on Gabriel Gudmundsson on the left side.

The deal will see Leeds pay Nice an initial one million euros for the loan, with an option to sign Bard permanently at the end of the season for a further five million euros. It would represent Leeds' sixth senior signing of the summer, following goalkeepers James Trafford and Michael Zetterer, defenders Nico Elvedi and Tarik Muharemovic, and forward Harry Wilson. The move comes amid uncertainty in attack, after Willy Gnonto completed a loan return to Fiorentina, a deal contingent on Leeds finding a replacement, though their attempt to sign Chelsea's Mykhailo Mudryk was hijacked by Tottenham.
