Leeds United are in talks to sign Manchester City goalkeeper James Trafford, with the England international potentially leaving the Etihad Stadium just a year after returning there. The move comes as Leeds seek a new goalkeeper following the departures of Karl Darlow and Illan Meslier from Elland Road this summer, with existing options Lucas Perri and Alex Cairns having struggled for game time last season.

Trafford, 22, made 17 appearances for City last season, winning the Carabao Cup and FA Cup, but played just four Premier League matches after City signed Italy international Gianluigi Donnarumma from Paris St-Germain, limiting his opportunities. He began his career at City before loan spells at Accrington and Bolton, then joined Burnley in 2023, making 73 appearances before City exercised a buy-back option worth £27m plus add-ons last summer. Newcastle and Aston Villa had also shown interest this summer, though Villa are now expected to retain Emiliano Martinez.
