Edward Morris, a legendary Nashville-based country music journalist, has died at the age of 90. His passing marks the end of a distinguished career spanning several decades, during which he became one of the most influential chroniclers of country and bluegrass music in America. Morris's extensive work shaped how the music industry documented and understood country music history.

Morris's career began in the 1970s when he joined Billboard as a freelance contributor in 1972, eventually becoming the publication's Country Music Editor and chief Nashville columnist before departing in 1995. Over his lifetime, he contributed to numerous prestigious publications including CMT (where he worked for 20 years from 1999), Advertising Age, TV Guide and The Hollywood Reporter. Beyond journalism, Morris authored eight books, wrote liner notes for major artists including The Judds and Eddy Arnold, and lectured at several universities; he was recognised as Print Journalist of the Year in 1993 by the International Bluegrass Music Association.
