## Key points

- The article criticises Albanese’s leadership and policy record.
- It questions his explanation of a document about Helen Haines.
- Haines had criticised a $6 million golf club grant.

## Summary

The article argues that Anthony Albanese is more effective at winning elections than delivering policy or providing national leadership. It criticises his handling of the Voice referendum, government policy reversals and responses to major events, and says his recent remarks have not resolved questions about a document circulated by his office targeting independent MP Helen Haines.

The document reportedly used Haines’s funding requests and personal connections to imply wrongdoing, without evidence, after she criticised a $6 million grant to Marrickville Golf Club. Albanese described Haines as a strong local representative but, according to the article, did not explain why his office had briefed against her. The piece is an opinion article and presents the author’s interpretation of the events.
