Liberal leader Angus Taylor refuses to work with Pauline Hanson’s One Nation – after she urged them to come together

Australian Liberal leader and Opposition Leader Angus Taylor has ruled out cooperating with Pauline Hanson's One Nation party, rejecting her call for the two to join forces to defeat the Labor government. In a speech at the Sydney Institute, Taylor argued that while his sole focus was removing Labor from office, One Nation was "not the solution", describing its platform as "long on rhetoric but short on substance" and a "random grab bag of poorly defined, contradictory and constantly changing positions". The public rebuff highlights tensions on the political right over whether the Coalition should align with minor conservative parties.

Taylor said he wanted the Coalition to govern "in our own right" and claimed One Nation would add "an extra trillion dollars of spending over 10 years", branding it a "one-person show". Responding in a video posted from London, Hanson said she was "very disappointed", insisting "Angus, I'm not your enemy" and urging him to set aside their differences to remove what she called a "toxic" Labor and Greens government. Taylor reiterated his position in follow-up comments on ABC News Breakfast.
