lifepath99 – “Misfortune”
London-via-Asheville musician Bex Vines has released "Misfortune," her debut single under the new project name lifepath99. The track marks the launch of a new solo musical identity and was produced by Liam Brand, known for his work with Zach Bryan and Mount Kimbie, giving the release notable production pedigree for a debut.
The song opens with a warped, lullaby-like melody and builds an eerie yet tender atmosphere, with lyrics evoking claustrophobia and being watched, set against woozy guitars and heavy bass beneath Vines' light vocals. In a press statement, Vines said the song grew out of a real experience of fear while walking a particular route, and reflects a wider unease many people carry, especially amid the current political climate; she described writing it as a way of reclaiming psychological power over that fear.
