## Key points

- Troy Jackson would not support Chuck Schumer as Democratic leader.
- He is likely to challenge Senator Susan Collins in Maine.
- The race could matter for Senate control.

## Summary

Former Maine Senate President Troy Jackson, the likely Democratic nominee to challenge Republican Senator Susan Collins, said he would not support Chuck Schumer as Senate Democratic leader if elected. The stance highlights dissatisfaction with the party’s current leadership among some Democrats and could become relevant if control of the Senate is close.

Jackson said Democrats need a different approach focused on reconnecting with working people. He is expected to face Collins in Maine’s Senate race, which is likely to be closely watched because it could affect the balance of power in the chamber.
