Lionel Richie Hospitalized in ICU After Struggling Through Final Song at Concert

American Songwriter · 6 hours ago

Lionel Richie has been hospitalised and is currently in intensive care after struggling to finish a concert in St Louis, Missouri, on 29 August. Sources cited by TMZ say the American Idol judge checked himself in for tests amid concerns over possible dehydration, and he is hoping to be discharged on 1 September. Concertgoers reported that Richie appeared to struggle towards the end of the show and asked for a chair to be brought out so he could sing his final song seated.

This marks the second health scare for Richie in as many months, after he felt dizzy on stage in June, cut a show short and was taken to hospital by ambulance, later cancelling two further performances on doctors' advice. He subsequently resumed touring without incident, expressing gratitude to fans on Instagram, until this latest setback. It is not yet known when he will return to performing, with his next scheduled date on 26 September in San Francisco, followed by shows in Chicago and Columbus ahead of a residency at the Wynn in Las Vegas.
