FX and 20th Television have acquired Wildwood, a new comedy from Derry Girls creator Lisa McGee, marking her first project set outside the UK. Described as a spiritual successor to her BAFTA-winning hit, the series follows a group of Irish college girls arriving in Wildwood, New Jersey, with no money, visas or plan, and the deal was reportedly secured after strong competition among studios.

The show, set in the summer of 2000, has been put into development with McGee as creator and executive producer; 20th Television's Carolyn Cassidy is credited with pursuing McGee for the project. Derry Girls, McGee's semi-autobiographical 2018 series, was Channel 4's biggest comedy launch since 2004 and won Best Comedy at the BAFTAs, International Emmys and Irish Film and Television Awards across three seasons. McGee's other credits include Netflix's How To Get To Heaven From Belfast, Channel 5's The Deceived, and episodes of The White Queen and Being Human; she is represented by CAA and United Agents.
