Listen to David Bowie’s previously unheard ‘Today’ demo from 1965 Shel Talmy Recordings
A previously unheard 1965 David Bowie demo, ‘Today’, has been released ahead of the forthcoming album David Bowie: The Shel Talmy Recordings. Recorded when Bowie was still known as Davie Jones, the sparse, melancholic song explores heartbreak and offers an early glimpse of musical ideas associated with his later work.
The album is due on 18 September via Parlophone and collects recordings made at Central Sound Studios on Denmark Street with producer Shel Talmy. It includes 10 previously unheard tracks and contributions connected to Jimmy Page, The Yardbirds and pianist Nicky Hopkins; it also contains early versions of songs Bowie later revisited for his 2021 album TOY.
