King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard have released "Alien Metal", the title track from their forthcoming EDM album, marking the second preview of the Australian band's move into high-energy electronic music following last month's single "Level 5". The shift is notable for a group best known for psych rock, and reflects frontman Stu Mackenzie's immersion in a modular synth rig, affectionately nicknamed "Nathan", that he says "completely rewired" his approach to songwriting.

The album, the band's 28th studio LP, is due out "later this summer" via P(doom) Records and was built using the Eurorack synth the six-piece use in their live sets, an instrument Mackenzie began exploring on bandmate Joey Walker's suggestion. Alongside the new song, the group announced a run of US shows, including three nights at Forest Hills Stadium in New York and a themed "Rave Show" at Under the K Bridge Park in Brooklyn, plus an Australian tour in October taking in Thirroul, Sydney and Melbourne.
