Listen to Tom Waits’ darkly comic new spoken-word track ‘The Fly’
Tom Waits has released the full version of ‘The Fly’, a darkly comic spoken-word track that treats the common housefly with sardonic contempt. It is the B-side to ‘Boots On The Ground’, his politically charged collaboration with Massive Attack, and represents a further rare piece of new original material from Waits after a long recording hiatus.
A preview of ‘The Fly’ appeared months earlier, while the new lyric video is illustrated by Waits’ son, Casey. The two songs will be issued on 12-inch vinyl on 4 September in a 180g recycled-material “EcoSonic” pressing, available in red, white or blue; ‘Boots On The Ground’ was first released online in April and was Waits’ first original music since 2011’s ‘Bad As Me’.
