Locarno Festival Announces ‘Adventurous’ Lineup Featuring Caleb Landry Jones, Isabelle Huppert, Hong Sang-soo and Monica Bellucci
The Locarno Film Festival has unveiled the full programme for its 79th edition, comprising 103 world premieres. Artistic Director Giona A. Nazzaro described it as "an adventurous selection, full of surprises," and the announcement matters as it signals the calibre of arthouse and star-driven cinema audiences can expect, drawing names such as Isabelle Huppert, Monica Bellucci, Caleb Landry Jones and returning festival regular Hong Sang-soo.
The competition and other sections feature titles including Hong's "Nowhere to Lay My Eyes," Nelson Yeo's "The House on the Moon," Giovanni Tortorici's "Ketticè" (produced by Luca Guadagnino and starring Bellucci), Gurvinder Singh's "Rehmat" with Naseeruddin Shah, and Maria Bäck's "Brave New Love" with Anders Danielsen Lie. The open-air Piazza Grande section will host stars including Huppert and Diane Kruger ("All About Corinne"), Chiara Mastroianni, and Landry Jones and Mena Suvari in Peter Brunner's "Down the Arm of God." Asia Argento will receive the Life Achievement Award, and screenings will also include classics such as "Taxi Driver" and "Dances with Wolves," plus Olivia Wilde's "The Invite."
