## Key points

- Phillips says *Gangland* has sparked conversations among Indigenous audiences.
- The film was shot in Oklahoma in 18 days.
- *The Chair Company* season two is filming and will be “crazier than ever”.

## Summary

Lou Diamond Phillips discusses his role in *Gangland*, a neo-Western about a tribal police officer whose harsh methods are driven by commitment to his community. He says the film’s Indigenous roots and portrayal of generational trauma have prompted audiences to discuss cycles of violence and addiction.

The film was shot on Cheyenne and Arapaho land in Oklahoma over 18 days, with a scene featuring 600 bison added during location scouting. Phillips has read a proposed *Young Guns 3* screenplay and says he does not understand why it has not been approved; he also says filming is under way on the second season of *The Chair Company*, which he describes as even more unusual.
