Louis Garrel Jokes About ‘Moretti Method’ Acting at Press Conference for Nanni Moretti’s ‘It Will Happen Tonight’

Variety · 2 hours ago

Veteran Italian director Nanni Moretti returned to the Venice Film Festival for the first time in 37 years, presenting his romantic drama "It Will Happen Tonight" at a press conference alongside stars Louis Garrel and Jasmine Trinca. The film marks a notable shift for Moretti, who has typically placed himself at the centre of his work, as this is his first venture into straightforward romance and his first collaboration with French actor Garrel, while reuniting him with Trinca, who made her screen debut in his 2001 film "The Son's Room."

Loosely based on Israeli author Eshkol Nevo's short story collection "Hungry Heart," the film explores love, family bonds and generational relationships. At the presser, Garrel humorously described the "Moretti method," recounting how the director sank a perfect basketball shot on his first attempt before Garrel himself failed 25 takes in a row. The ensemble cast also includes Angela Finocchiaro, Elena Lietti and Hippolyte Girardot, with the film produced by Sacher Film, Fandango and RAI Cinema, and pre-sold internationally by Playtime and Pan-Européenne ahead of its festival premiere.
