Racing Louisville midfielder Savannah DeMelo has sued UofL Health and two named physicians, alleging negligence in failing to diagnose a heart condition before she suffered cardiac arrest during an NWSL match on 14 September 2025. The case was filed a year and a day after the incident, and sources say Racing Louisville has already decided to end its medical partnership with UofL Health once the current season concludes, with a new provider being sought for 2027.

DeMelo, drafted fourth overall by Louisville in 2022 and a surprise pick for the USWNT's 2023 World Cup squad, was diagnosed with Graves' disease in late 2024 and had earlier reported dizziness and chest tightness before collapsing on the pitch in Seattle. She is now nearing a return, having resumed full training, with a possible comeback against San Diego Wave on 25 September; sources also say she has verbally agreed a new contract with the club, pending league approval. Racing Louisville and UofL Health both declined to comment on the pending litigation.
