Lowry retires after returning to Raptors for one day

BBC Sport · 4 hours ago

Six-time NBA All-Star Kyle Lowry has announced his retirement at the age of 40, having briefly re-signed with the Toronto Raptors so that he could formally end his playing career with the club. The point guard, who helped Toronto win the 2019 NBA championship, had spent his final seasons with his hometown Philadelphia 76ers, but chose to close out his 19-year career as a Raptor, underlining his lasting association with the Canadian franchise.

Lowry was named an All-Star in six of his nine seasons in Toronto and also played for the Memphis Grizzlies, Houston Rockets and Miami Heat, latterly combining his time at the 76ers with work as a television pundit. He made the announcement on 7 July, having worn the number seven jersey in Toronto. Alongside his retirement, Lowry and his wife have joined the ownership group of the WNBA's Toronto Tempo, describing it as a "full circle moment" and pledging to support the growth of women's basketball in Canada.
