Lionel Richie is recovering after several recent hospitalisations, according to fellow American Idol judges Luke Bryan and Carrie Underwood. During Bryan’s Nashville concert, Richie appeared in a pre-recorded video confirming that he, Bryan, Underwood and host Ryan Seacrest plan to return for the programme’s 25th season. Bryan said the group had been worried about Richie but that he was doing well.

Richie’s health problems began in June, when dizziness forced him to cut short a performance, travel to hospital by ambulance and cancel two concerts. After appearing unwell at an August concert, he was reportedly treated for dehydration, underwent cardiac tests and later received treatment for atrial fibrillation, including an ablation to restore a normal heart rhythm. Three tour dates with Earth, Wind & Fire—in San Francisco, Chicago and Columbus—have consequently been cancelled.
