## Key points

- A Lyft driver made four women leave his car after recognising them from the news.
- Lyft said it was reviewing the incident.
- One passenger later found her account deactivated.

## Summary

A Lyft driver asked four women leaving a Portland Thorns match whether they were the people featured in the news, then told them to get out of his car after they confirmed it. One woman, Julie Lane, said she felt unsafe in the dark location where they were left; the incident has raised questions about how rideshare platforms handle alleged discrimination.

The women had been removed from the stadium after a protest supporting women’s sports drew verbal and physical backlash, and Lane said she had already been struck by a spectator. Another woman arranged an Uber to take the group to their destination. Lyft said its safety team had contacted both the rider and driver and was reviewing the incident; Lane later found her own account deactivated. Portland rules prohibit drivers from refusing a passenger of proper demeanour after accepting a ride.
