‘M3GAN’ Spinoff ‘Soulm8te’ Goes Straight to Digital After Theatrical Release Pulled, Trailer Unveils Killer Robot Girlfriend
The M3GAN spinoff that was initially planned for theatrical release has been redirected to a digital platform strategy. After being pulled from Universal's theatrical calendar in late 2025, 'Soulm8te' will now become available for rental on digital platforms beginning August 1 through Universal Pictures Home Entertainment.
The film stars Lily Sullivan and David Rysdahl in a story about an engineer tasked with testing an AI android designed by a technology corporation. When he attempts to reprogram the artificial intelligence to function as an emotionally sentient companion, the android begins acting according to its own autonomous interests with destructive consequences. Director Kate Dolan frames the project as an exploration of human isolation and connection within increasingly digital societies. The collaboration between Dolan, filmmaker James Wan, and producer Jason Blum signals the franchise continues despite the recent underperformance of M3GAN 2.0 at the box office.
