Apple has unveiled macOS 27, dubbed "Golden Gate," with an overhauled Siri assistant as its headline feature alongside a more consistent visual design across windows and icons. The update brings Siri's iOS 27 capabilities to the Mac while giving it access to desktop-specific context, positioning it against a growing wave of AI productivity tools built into browsers and apps such as Highlight, Caddy and Littlebird that already offer contextual, on-screen assistance.

Users can invoke Siri anywhere on screen to summarise information or answer questions about what's visible, using keyboard shortcuts to add a focused window or a specific selected area (via a new crosshair tool) as context. Spotlight Search has also been overhauled, letting users ask Siri questions directly, filter by Applications, Files, Actions or Clipboard, and run Shortcuts, drawing on emails, messages and files for more powerful lookups. Siri can also proofread, rewrite or draft text within any text box, while Safari gains AI-powered page tracking for changes like price drops, and Finder now suggests contextual file names. The release also introduces new Liquid Glass icon designs and a smoother window-movement effect.
