NBC is developing Newlyweds, a sitcom starring Téa Leoni and Tim Daly as a teacher and philosophy professor who impulsively marry after a whirlwind romance. The project reunites the pair, who played a married couple in Madam Secretary and are now married in real life, while shifting them from political drama to lighter comedy.

Jamie Lee Curtis and Gail Lerner are involved, with Lerner serving as showrunner and executive producer. The series is described as a later-in-life take on Dharma & Greg, featuring Jeanie, a single mother of two, and James, a reserved professor; the cast also includes Ignacio Diaz-Silverio, Bill O’Neill and Emma Meisel. Dharma & Greg premiered in 1997 and ran for five seasons.
