Madeleine Carlisle, Stephen Colbert’s Daughter, Hired by The Atlantic After ‘60 Minutes’ Exit

The Hollywood Reporter · 16 hours ago

Madeleine Carlisle, a journalist and daughter of Stephen Colbert, has joined The Atlantic as a staff writer after leaving CBS’s 60 Minutes earlier this month. Her move comes amid wider departures and allegations of editorial interference at 60 Minutes under Paramount Skydance’s new leadership, making it part of a broader period of instability at CBS News.

Carlisle previously worked as an Atlantic fellow in 2018–19, then reported for Time on politics, gender and legal issues before joining 60 Minutes in 2022. Atlantic editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg said she had worked with Scott Pelley, Anderson Cooper and Cecilia Vega and had been part of an Emmy-nominated team; the magazine also hired former Vibe and Billboard editor-in-chief Danyel Smith as a staff writer.

  • Madeleine Carlisle has returned to The Atlantic as a staff writer.
  • She left 60 Minutes during a period of newsroom turmoil.
