Simon & Schuster is to publish a new photo book, *Madonna: Into the Groove: An Intimate Portrait of the Queen of Pop*, chronicling the singer's breakthrough year of 1985. Due out in October, the 160-page volume centres on images by the late rock photographer Ken Regan, most of which have never been published before, capturing the moment Madonna rose to global stardom and cemented her status as a fashion icon.

The book's text, written by *Rolling Stone* staff writer Tomás Mier, traces the development of Madonna's signature style and draws on new interviews with figures from her inner circle, including producer Nile Rodgers, choreographer Brad Jefferies and stylist Maripol. It covers her romance with Sean Penn, her Le Mondrian hotel shoots in Los Angeles, the Virgin Tour and her Live Aid appearance, with chapters titled "A Material Girl," "Le Mondrian," "The Virgin Tour," "Live Aid" and "Aftermath." Regan, who died of cancer in 2012, also photographed Madonna amid a famous Live Aid group shot featuring stars such as Bob Dylan, Tina Turner and Mick Jagger. The release comes as Madonna has just put out her 15th studio album, *Confessions II*.
