Madonna has shared a personal Instagram tribute to William Orbit following confirmation of the producer’s death, calling him a “genius” and “otherworldly” collaborator who unlocked her creativity. Her remarks add detail to the reaction to Orbit’s death and underline his central role in reshaping her music, especially on the acclaimed 1998 album Ray of Light.

Orbit, born William Wainwright, died at home on 23 July aged 69; his family announced the news on Friday and gave no cause of death. He produced Ray of Light, which won three Grammy Awards, later worked with Madonna on Music and MDNA, and collaborated with artists including Blur, U2, Pink, Robbie Williams and Britney Spears.
