Vickie Williams, 50, is on trial in Florida accused of killing elderly couple Darryl and Sharon Getman at their Mount Dora home on 31 December 2022, then taking their car and fleeing to Georgia. Prosecutors allege the killings were deliberate, while the defence argues Williams was experiencing psychosis and believed the couple posed a threat to her children.

The court heard that the Getmans were found stabbed, with Darryl also suffering severe head and facial injuries, and that Williams’s DNA was recovered from knives and other items at the scene. Prosecutors say she took the couple’s Kia, jewellery and other possessions; a friend testified that she laughed and described the vehicle as a new car. Williams has pleaded not guilty to two first-degree murder charges and grand theft of a motor vehicle.
