## Key points

- Vance and Rubio emerged as favourites among rallygoers.
- DeSantis was also named as a possible contender.
- No major Republican has declared a 2028 campaign.

## Summary

MAGA voters interviewed at a Trump rally in Bangor, Maine, named Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio as leading possibilities to succeed Donald Trump as the Republican presidential nominee in 2028. The early discussion follows midterm elections in which Democrats gained control of Congress, sharpening questions about the party’s future leadership.

Some interviewees preferred Rubio, citing his experience and communication skills, while others backed Vance or praised both men. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis was also mentioned, including as a possible running mate; Senators Ted Cruz and Josh Hawley have surfaced in wider 2028 speculation. No major Republican contender has formally announced a campaign.
