Posters advertising a "Kirkaversery" event appeared across the University of Tennessee, Knoxville campus on the first anniversary of conservative activist Charlie Kirk's assassination, sparking condemnation from Republican politicians and social media users who called the stunt a celebration of political violence. It is not yet known who put up the posters, but the university has denied any official involvement and stressed that no group had registered the event through proper channels.

The posters, which mocked Kirk's death with phrases such as "We will celebrate the first new year AK (After Kirk)", prompted criticism from Tennessee gubernatorial candidate Marsha Blackburn, State Senator Brent Taylor and State Representative Jason Zachary, all of whom contacted university leadership. UT Knoxville said in a statement that it "strongly condemns any message or activity that celebrates or makes light of violence" and had not confirmed whether those responsible were affiliated with the university. Kirk was shot dead a year ago while debating students at Utah Valley University, with suspected gunman Tyler Robinson having pleaded not guilty; the controversy also follows UT Knoxville's earlier $2 million settlement with a professor fired over comments she made about Kirk's killing.
