Makoto Shinkai's acclaimed 2016 anime film Your Name is returning to North American cinemas in a newly remastered 4K version, distributor GKIDS has announced. The re-release, which brings the film back to a new generation of viewers on the big screen, underscores the enduring popularity of the title, still regarded as the highest-grossing original Japanese animated feature ever made.

The 4K remaster opens nationwide on 14 August, screening in both its original Japanese-language version and an English dub. Animated by CoMix Wave Films, Your Name grossed more than $400 million worldwide on its original release and tells the story of two teenagers, Mitsuha and Taki, who mysteriously begin swapping bodies. GKIDS describes it as "a breathtaking love story across time," and IGN's original review praised its animation and emotionally engaging storyline.
